Missouri has finally reached the mountain top and became the No. 1 team in the country today.  This is a feat for a college squad that no one saw having a very successful season.  Now they are guaranteed a BCS bowl-berth, a January bowl game that they haven’t seen since 1969!  But this success does not come without luck, due to this very confusing NCAA season, a team like Missouri wouldn’t even crack the Top 25.  They are the poster child for the season that was 07-08- one where you would expect a top 3 team to lose every week.

Even more stranger than Missouri finding success in this season is their division rival, Kansas, rising above their NCAA peers.  If you would have told me that the Nov. 24th matchup between Missouri and Kansas would be an important game in the beginning of the season, I would have laughed in your face.  While I am at it, other teams such as South Florida and Connecticut really shined this season, impressing not only fans but their fellow teams in the process.

Any phenomenon that displays the true undiscovered talent of college football should be supported at all cost.  To tell the truth, I really don’t care if a team is in a big conference like the SEC, Big 12, etc.  All that really matters is that a specific team is busting their hump week after week trying to win football games.  Success does not come without sacrifice and I love when teams have risen from the doldrums to roll with the big dogs and share that spotlight that is so seldom shone on them.  I declare this the Year of Irrelevancy and hopefully the dawning of a new age in college football.
