Washington Redskins‘ safety Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after being shot in his home by an intruder. Taylor was the Redskins’ first pick in the 2004 draft, the fifth player selected overall.
Sports Illustrated reported that a family friend, Richard Sharpstein received the news from Taylor’s father, around 5:30 this morning.
Taylor, a former All American for the University of Miami, had been shot in his upper leg, damaging his femoral artery which led to massive blood loss, and likely his death. Taylor’s girlfriend said that loud noises had awakened them after 1:00 am Monday and that Taylor had grabbed his protection weapon, a machete. The intruder charged into bedroom, breaking down the door in the process, and fired twice. One shot missed, and the other hit Taylor. Neither Taylor’s girlfriend or 1 year old daughter Jackie were hurt.
